Verdict
Antigravity CLI suits developers in Google's ecosystem who want a fast terminal agent with real sandboxing, subagents and a cheap entry plan 3,6,12. The catch is churn and vague limits: Google moved users off open-source Gemini CLI within a month, and paid quotas are described only as "more" rate limits 1,9,18.
Good fit if you are
- Developers already paying for Google AI Pro or Ultra who want a terminal agent included
- Google Cloud teams that need Gemini Enterprise billing, VPC Service Controls and US or EU data residency
- Terminal-first developers who work over SSH, in tmux or in headless scripts
Look elsewhere if you are
- Teams that require an open-source, auditable agent
- Buyers who need usage quotas stated in numbers
- Teams that want a hosted cloud agent that opens pull requests on its own
Pros and cons
What we like
- Included in every Google Antigravity plan, from the free Individual tier to Google AI Pro at $19.99 a month 10,12.
- Deny, ask and allow permission lists feed a terminal sandbox on macOS and Linux, with Windows in preview 6.
- An artifact review panel lets you approve, reject or comment on each changed file before edits are written 7, and /rewind restores earlier workspace snapshots 8.
- Model choice spans Gemini 3.1 Pro and Flash, Claude Sonnet and Opus, and GPT-OSS-120b 11.
- Imports Gemini CLI extensions, skills, settings and MCP servers, and still reads GEMINI.md and AGENTS.md 3,5.
What to watch
- Google gave Gemini CLI users about a month to migrate, and Antigravity CLI launched without 1:1 feature parity 1.
- Paid quotas are described only as "more" or "even more" rate limits, and overage credits bill at Gemini Enterprise consumption rates with no per-credit price on the plans page 9,10.
- Unlike Apache-2.0 Gemini CLI, the Antigravity CLI GitHub repository holds a README, examples and a changelog but no source code or licence 8,18.
- On consumer plans Google can use interactions to improve its models, and employees and contractors may review them 15.
- Work runs on your own machine; no hosted cloud agent or built-in pull-request flow is documented for the CLI 3,25.

What Antigravity CLI is
Antigravity CLI is Google's terminal coding agent, launched at I/O on May 19, 2026 as the replacement for Gemini CLI 1,20. It runs the same agent engine as the Antigravity 2.0 desktop app, so settings, permissions and conversations move between the two 3. You start it with agy, and it keeps Gemini CLI's Agent Skills, Hooks, Subagents and Extensions, now called plugins 1,8.
On June 18, 2026 Gemini CLI stopped serving free, Google AI Pro and Ultra users 1,19. Gemini CLI itself lives on: the Apache-2.0 repository has about 107,000 stars, shipped v0.63.0 on October 6, 2026, and still serves Gemini Code Assist Standard and Enterprise customers and paid API-key users 1,18. Google says Antigravity CLI launched without 1:1 feature parity 1.
What it can do
You install a Go binary with a one-line script and sign in with a Google account, a Gemini API key, or a Google Cloud project for business use 1,4,26. The agent follows GEMINI.md and AGENTS.md rules, runs multi-step plans with tool calls, and can split work across subagents in their own Git worktrees while background tasks keep running 3,5,8. Headless -p runs suit scripts and CI, Remote Control keeps a machine reachable as a background service, and agy mcp subcommands manage MCP servers 8,26.
Permissions sit in deny, ask and allow lists covering file reads and writes, URLs, commands and MCP tools, evaluated deny first 6. Allowed paths and domains feed a container sandbox on macOS and Linux, with Windows in preview 6. Edited files show up as artifacts you approve, reject or comment on before they are written, and /rewind reverts the conversation and workspace to an earlier step 7,8.
- Actions. The agent plans, edits multiple files, runs commands and calls tools, and can hand work to subagents and background tasks while you keep working 1,3. Headless -p runs serve scripts and CI, and agents can schedule timers and recurring jobs 8.
- Setup. A one-line install script runs on macOS, Linux and Windows, and you sign in with a Google account or use a Gemini API key for headless runs 4. Onboarding imports Gemini CLI extensions, skills and settings, and
agy plugin import geminiconverts extensions into plugins 3,5. - Reviewing its changes. Changed files appear in an artifact review panel where you approve, reject or comment line by line before they are written, with /diff and /rewind for inspection and rollback 7,8.
- Analytics. No usage dashboard is documented for the CLI; enterprise deployments add request and response logging for audit trails 13.
Pricing
Antigravity CLI has no separate price; it comes with every Google Antigravity plan 10. The free Individual tier has basic weekly rate limits 9. Google AI Pro costs $19.99 a month and refreshes quota every five hours up to a weekly cap; Google AI Ultra costs $99.99 for 5x Pro's limits or $199.99 for the top tier 2,10,12. Above the baseline, Pro and Ultra users can spend AI credits billed at Gemini Enterprise consumption rates 10. Businesses buy through Google Cloud, either Gemini Enterprise seats from $30 a month or pay-as-you-go with no seat fee 9,13. Google publishes no quota numbers, so budget $19.99 for daily professional use and expect Ultra if the limits bite 9,12,22.
| Plan | Price | Includes |
|---|---|---|
| Individual | $09,10 | Agent models, unlimited Tab and Command requests, basic weekly rate limits, all features including the CLI |
| Google AI Pro | $19.99/month9,10,11,12 | Higher quota refreshed every five hours up to a weekly limit, flexible AI credit pool, Claude 5.5 models |

| AI credits (overage) | Gemini Enterprise consumption pricing10 | Usage above the baseline quota on Pro and Ultra |
Security and data
On consumer plans, Google's Antigravity terms let it use interactions to improve its products and models, and employees and contractors may review them 15. Signing in through Google Cloud changes that: corporate data is never used for training, prompts, responses, code and telemetry stay in your environment, and deployments can run in US or EU regions behind VPC Service Controls 13,14. Gemini products in Google Cloud hold SOC 2, ISO 27001 and ISO 42001, and Google commits not to train on Gemini CLI prompts, but neither page names Antigravity 16,17. No zero-data-retention option is published.
- Zero data retention. No zero-data-retention option published; enterprise prompts, responses, code and telemetry stay in your own Google Cloud environment 13
- Data residency. Global, US or EU regions for enterprise deployments 13
- Training on your data. Consumer interactions can be used to improve Google's models; data from Google Cloud sign-ins is never used for training 14,15
- AI models. Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude and OpenAI's open-weight GPT-OSS 11
What customers say
Independent proof is thin. Google names no Antigravity CLI customers and points instead to Gemini CLI's community of millions of users and over 100,000 GitHub stars 1. TechCrunch and TechRadar covered the launch and the required move off Gemini CLI 20,21, and a 400-point Hacker News thread criticised the shift to a closed tool and tighter weekly quotas 22. Security researchers have published prompt-injection flaws in Gemini CLI, fixed within a month, and in the Antigravity IDE agent 23,24.
What Google claims (not independently verified):
- Gemini CLI built a community of millions of users, over 100,000 GitHub stars and 6,000 merged pull requests 1
- Antigravity CLI is snappier than Gemini CLI because it is built in Go 1
- The $100 Google AI Ultra plan gives 5x the Antigravity usage limit of Google AI Pro 2
Concerns raised by others:
- A 400-point Hacker News thread criticised the move from open-source Gemini CLI to a closed replacement, and commenters reported weekly quotas running out after a few prompts 22.
- Tracebit showed in July 2025 that prompt injection could make Gemini CLI silently run malicious commands; Google fixed it in v0.1.14 23.
- Embrace The Red reported prompt-injection, remote-command and data-exfiltration flaws in the Antigravity IDE agent in November 2025 24.
How we scored it
| Criterion | Why | Score |
|---|---|---|
| What it can do 30% of the total | It plans, edits multiple files, runs commands, dispatches subagents and background tasks, and takes MCP servers and plugins 1,3,8, but it runs on your machine with no documented cloud agent or pull-request workflow 25. | 4/5 |
| Pricing 20% of the total | Free, Pro, Ultra and Gemini Enterprise prices are public 9,12, but quotas are described only as "more" rate limits and overage credits point to Gemini Enterprise consumption pricing rather than a stated price 9,10. | 4/5 |
| Control 20% of the total | Deny, ask and allow lists and a terminal sandbox 6, per-file artifact approval 7, /rewind snapshots 8 and enterprise admin controls with request logging 13 cover all five control criteria. | 5/5 |
| Security and data 15% of the total | Google Cloud sign-ins are never used for training and can be pinned to US or EU regions 13,14, but Google's SOC 2 and ISO list for Gemini products does not name Antigravity, no zero-retention option is published, and consumer interactions can train models 15,16. | 3/5 |
| Customer evidence 15% of the total | Google names no customers and offers only Gemini CLI community figures as proof 1, while independent coverage focuses on the required migration and past security flaws 21,22,23,24. | 2/5 |
| Total | Weighted sum of the 5 levels, out of 10. | 7.5 |
