Verdict
Sierra suits large consumer brands that want one agent across voice, chat and email, backed by a deep compliance stack. The catch is price: nothing is published, and you pay per outcome on terms negotiated contract by contract.
Good fit if you are
- Large consumer brands with high-volume voice and chat support
- Regulated industries that need FedRAMP High, HIPAA or PCI-compliant agents
- Teams that want to pay for resolved outcomes rather than seats
Look elsewhere if you are
- Small teams that want self-serve sign-up and a public price
- Buyers who need guaranteed EU data hosting
- Companies looking for a light help-desk add-on rather than an enterprise rollout

What Sierra is
Sierra builds AI agents that handle customer conversations for large consumer brands. One agent covers chat, SMS, WhatsApp, email, voice and ChatGPT 1. Listed customers include Rocket Mortgage, SiriusXM, Wayfair, Hyatt and Vanguard 1.
The company raised $950 million in May 2026 at a valuation above $15 billion, led by Tiger Global and GV 17. It says more than 40% of the Fortune 50 are customers 17. Sierra sells on negotiated, outcome-based contracts 2.
What it can do
Ghostwriter drafts an agent from SOPs, transcripts and plain-English goals 1. Teams refine it in the no-code Agent Studio, or developers build in code with the Agent SDK 5,22. Agents connect to order management and CRM systems to act, such as processing an exchange or changing a reservation 11. Payments run through a PCI DSS Level 1 flow in which the agent never sees raw card data 12. Sierra's own fine-tuned models orchestrate the conversation 23.
Simulations generate test conversations from your SOPs and past transcripts, and changes should pass them before they go live 6. Workspaces move numbered snapshots from QA to staging to production, with instant rollback 7. After launch, Insights tracks CSAT and resolution, and always-on review flags conversations that need attention 8. When a human is needed, the agent routes the conversation to your care team with full context 5.
- Actions. Agents connect to order management and CRM systems to process exchanges or change reservations 11. They can also collect card and ACH payments and set up payment plans inside the conversation 12.
- Setup. Ghostwriter drafts an agent from SOPs, transcripts and plain-English goals 1. Teams refine it in the no-code Agent Studio or build in code with the Agent SDK 5,22.
- Handoff to people. Agents route conversations to care teams with full context, and Live Assist supports the human agents who take over 5,10.
- Analytics. Insights tracks CSAT and case resolution, Explorer answers plain-language questions about conversations, and always-on review flags conversations that need attention 8.
Pricing
Sierra charges for outcomes, not seats or minutes. An outcome can be a resolved support conversation, a saved cancellation or an upsell, and most unresolved or escalated conversations are not billed 2. Simple interactions such as routing can be priced on consumption instead 2. Sierra publishes no rates. Competitor and buyer analyses put entry contracts around $150,000 a year, with implementation fees from $50,000 21,20; Sierra does not confirm these figures. Expect a negotiated enterprise contract with outcome definitions written into it.
| Plan | Price | Includes |
|---|---|---|
| Outcome-based | Quote only2 | Billed per agreed outcome, such as a resolved conversation, a saved cancellation or an upsell; most unresolved or escalated conversations are not charged |
| Blended | Quote only2 | Consumption-based pricing for routing or greeter-style interactions, combined with outcome pricing |
Security and data
Sierra lists SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, ISO 42001, HIPAA, PCI DSS, FedRAMP High and CSA STAR 3,4. In September 2026 it added AIUC-1, an independently audited standard that tests how agents behave under manipulation 4. Sierra says customer data is never used to train models or shared with other customers, and PII is masked and encrypted 11,3. It runs 15+ frontier, open-weight and proprietary models but does not name its providers 13. No regional hosting option is published, and its data processing addendum allows EU, Swiss and UK personal data to move to the US 14.
