Verdict
v0 suits teams on Vercel and GitHub that want an agent to build and ship Next.js apps through branches, preview deployments and pull requests 5,6. The catch: it builds web apps only, its code viewer is read-only, and independent reviews of v0 itself are still thin 9,10,20.
Good fit if you are
- Teams already on Vercel and GitHub who want an agent that works in their repository
- Product and front-end teams building Next.js apps, dashboards and stores
- Builders who want to see per-token prices before they spend
Look elsewhere if you are
- Anyone who needs native iOS or Android apps
- Builders who want to edit code by hand inside the tool
- Teams that need a published security scan of the apps it builds
Pros and cons
What we like
- v0 opens the apps it builds in a browser, tests flows such as sign-up and fixes errors on its own 3.
- Two-way GitHub sync: changes land on a working branch, and Publish merges a pull request 5.
- Each working branch gets its own preview deployment, separate from production 5,6.
- Plan prices, included credits and per-token model rates are all public 1,2.
- Neon, Supabase, Upstash and Stripe connect from the Vercel Marketplace, and custom MCP servers plug in 3,4,8.
What to watch
- The code viewer is read-only; you change code through chat, line comments or GitHub 9.
- Builds web apps only; there are no native mobile apps 10.
- Prompts and content may be used for training on Free and Plus unless you opt out 1,10.
- No security scan of finished apps is published 11.
- Vercel's April 2026 breach exposed some customers' environment variables 16,17.

What v0 is
v0 is Vercel's AI agent for building web apps. It writes Next.js, React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS and shadcn/ui code, connects databases from the Vercel Marketplace and publishes to Vercel 4,6,10. Vercel rebuilt v0 in February 2026 to work inside existing GitHub repositories, with branches, pull requests and deploy on merge 18.
Vercel was last valued at $9.3 billion after a $300 million Series F, and Forbes put its revenue run rate at $340 million by the end of February 2026 19. In April 2026 Vercel disclosed a breach that started at a third-party AI tool used by an employee and exposed some customers' environment variables 16,17.
What it can do
You describe the app in chat or import a GitHub repository 5. v0 writes the code in a sandbox, runs shell commands, searches the web and opens the running app in a browser to test flows such as sign-up, fixing missing files, runtime errors and import problems on its own 3. Terminal commands and MCP tools follow Ask, Auto or Full permission modes 3,8. Databases come from the Vercel Marketplace: adding Neon, Supabase or Upstash creates the account and sets the environment variables, and v0 can run SQL to create tables 4.
With GitHub connected, v0 commits each change to a working branch with its own preview deployment 5. Publish opens or reuses a pull request, merges it into the base branch and waits for the production deployment, and branch protection still applies 5,6. The code viewer is read-only: you change code through chat or line comments, and you can ask v0 to revert a change or restore an earlier chat version and publish again 6,9. Custom domains are added from the Publish menu once a deployment exists 7.
- Actions. v0 builds full-stack Next.js apps with authentication and databases from the Vercel Marketplace, and runs SQL to create tables 4,10. It opens the apps it builds in a browser to test them, fixes errors on its own, runs shell commands in a sandbox and publishes to Vercel 3,6.
- Setup. Start from a prompt or import a GitHub repository 5; adding a database from the Marketplace creates the account and sets the environment variables for you 4.
- Owning the code. The code viewer is read-only, so changes go through chat or line comments 9; v0 commits every change to a GitHub working branch, merges a pull request when you publish, and code can be exported to run elsewhere 5,10.
- Analytics. Deployment logs, environment variables and rollbacks sit in the Vercel inspector, opened from the Publish menu 6.
Pricing
The free plan allows 7 messages a day and deploys to Vercel 1,2. Plus costs $30 per user a month and includes $30 of credits plus $2 of daily credits on login; Business costs $100 per user a month with the same credits and training opt-out by default 1. Credits pay for tokens at published rates, from $0.20 in and $1.20 out per million tokens on v0 Mini to $10 and $50 on v0 Max Fast 1. Monthly credits roll over and expire after 65 days; extra credits can be bought and last a year 2. The older $20 Premium plan is closed to new users 2. A solo builder starts at $30 a month on Plus. Long sessions on larger models use credits faster, because each message counts the prompt, chat history and source files 1,2.

Security and data
v0 is included in Vercel's SOC 2 Type 2 attestation for security, confidentiality and availability 11. Vercel holds ISO 27001, PCI DSS attestations and a TISAX assessment, and supports HIPAA for enterprise customers 15. Generated code runs in isolated environments and goes through a security analysis before it runs, and v0 warns about risky NEXT_PUBLIC_ variables 11; Vercel does not publish a vulnerability scan of finished apps. v0 may use prompts and content to improve its products unless you opt out in Vercel settings; Business opts out by default, and Enterprise data is never used for training 1,10. In April 2026 attackers reached Vercel's internal systems through a compromised third-party AI tool and decrypted some customers' environment variables that were not marked sensitive 16,17.
- Security checks on your app. Generated code goes through a security analysis before it runs, and v0 warns about secrets exposed through NEXT_PUBLIC_ variables; no vulnerability scan of finished apps is published 11
- Data residency. Not published for v0; Vercel says no data is stored permanently in EU regions 15
- Training on your data. Prompts and content may be used unless you opt out in Vercel settings; Business opts out by default and Enterprise data is never used for training 1,10,11
- AI models. Not published; v0 says it may send data to third-party model providers 10
What customers say
