Regal review

AI phone, SMS and chat agents for B2C contact centers, with a built-in dialer and journey builder.

Verdict

Regal suits consumer brands with large inbound and outbound call volumes that want AI agents tied to customer data, batch dialing and warm transfers to their own staff 5,6,8. The catch is access: there is no public price, and Regal says a good fit is at least 25 agents and 100,000 call minutes a month 2.

Good fit if you are

  • Consumer brands running high-volume sales, scheduling or collections calls
  • Teams that want AI and human agents on one platform with warm transfers
  • Regulated US businesses that need a BAA and US data residency

Look elsewhere if you are

  • Small teams under 100,000 call minutes a month
  • Buyers who need a published per-minute price
  • Contact centers serving callers in languages beyond Regal's voice list

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Custom actions call your own endpoints mid-call, and built-in actions cover transfers, callbacks, scheduling and IVR navigation 5,12.
  • Warm transfers keep the AI agent on the line until a person answers, then brief them with a summary 6.
  • Batch dialing turns an uploaded CSV into a scheduled call campaign routed to an AI agent 8.
  • Every save creates a version, and draft versions never take live calls 15.
  • Regal states SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA and PCI compliance, with zero-retention, no-training agreements with its LLM partners 25.

What to watch

  • No public price list; every contract is a custom quote 2.
  • Voice agents support 24 languages, and the automatic multilingual mode covers 10 languages in beta 9.
  • Simulation tests check logic only, not voice or interruptions, and web test calls cannot test transfers 13,14.
  • Audit logs are not documented beyond created-by and updated-by columns on users 21.
  • An AWS outage on October 20, 2025 disrupted Regal's AI agents, APIs and Twilio voice and SMS for about 13 hours 31.

What Regal is

Regal is an AI agent platform for consumer-facing contact centers, built by Regal Voice Inc., founded in 2020 28. Its agents handle inbound and outbound phone calls, SMS and web chat, and work beside human agents on one platform with a dialer, journey builder and agent desktop 1,4,7. Named users include eHealth, Mutual of Omaha Mortgage, American Standard and Kin 27.

Regal raised $40 million in October 2024, bringing its total funding to $83 million, and named HomeAdvisor, Western & Southern Financial Group and Parsley Health among its customers at the time 28.

What it can do

You write a single-state or multi-state prompt with sections for the role, task steps, questions and guardrails, then add actions 12,16. Custom actions post data to your endpoints and feed the response back into the call 5. The default model is OpenAI GPT-4o Mini, with GPT-4.1, GPT-5, Claude and Gemini models as options 22.

Inbound calls reach the agent on a Regal number or by SIP transfer from your CCaaS 23. Outbound calls come from Regal's progressive dialer with answering-machine detection, from triggered journeys, or from a CSV batch scheduled as a call campaign 7,8. Before launch you test the voice with web calls and run bulk simulations 13,14. Every save creates a new version, and only the active version takes live calls 15.

  • Actions. Custom actions send HTTP requests to your own endpoints during a conversation and use the response, for tasks such as validating data or booking through scheduling APIs 5. Built-in actions transfer calls, schedule callbacks, gather dates, press keypad digits, authenticate contacts and book on Cal.com, Google Calendar or Outlook 12.
  • Setup. Write the agent prompt in the builder, add actions and a knowledge base, then point a Regal number or an outbound journey at the agent 12,7. Regal runs its own telephony on Twilio, or connects to your CCaaS, such as NICE or Five9, over SIP 23.
  • Transfer to people. The Transfer Call action sends calls to Regal users, queues, external numbers or phonebook entries by cold or warm transfer, with a spoken summary on warm transfers 6; calls can also go back to your CCaaS by PSTN or SIP transfer 7.
  • Analytics. Post-call transcripts show each AI action and error 18, Custom AI Analysis extracts data points from every call 19, and Conversation Intelligence plays recordings alongside searchable transcripts 20.

Pricing

Regal does not publish prices. Its pricing page asks for a quote, says you pay for the features you use, and offers discounts for higher spend and longer contracts 2. It names at least 25 agents and 100,000 call minutes a month as a good fit 2. Regal's own cost guide says its AI agents generally come in at about $0.20 a minute, without saying what that covers 3. The cost of 1,000 minutes cannot be worked out from public prices.

Security and data

Regal says it is SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA and PCI compliant, stores data on AWS and encrypts it in transit and at rest 25. It signs BAAs for HIPAA deployments 26 and can commit to US data residency and US-only employee access for regulated industries 25. Its agreements with LLM partners require zero data retention and bar training on customer data 1,25. Agents can stop and restart call recording when callers share payment details or other personal data 17. Its security page also cites GDPR and CCPA 24. No ISO certification is published.

  • HIPAA. HIPAA compliant, with signed BAAs 25,26
  • Data residency. Data stored on AWS; US data residency and US-only employee access where an industry requires it 25
  • Training on your data. Agreements with LLM partners require zero data retention and bar training on customer data 1,25
  • AI models. OpenAI (GPT-4o Mini by default), Anthropic Claude and Google Gemini, plus an open-weight GLM-4.7 model on request 22
